Melee

The Melee class is pretty simple, it's close combat, and you use a sword or an axe or any other Melee-related weapon at close range. It may seem tough at first, but Terraria has a lot of swords and melee weapons that shoot out projectiles or have a big swing radius. It's simple yet tough, because some of the bosses in this game you don't want to get close to at all, and some it's okay to get close to. As you may expect, the melee class has a high defense and is often played as the tank in multiplayer and normally takes all the hits. You don't have to be a tank, but melee has high defense unlike some classes, which makes it perfect for being tanky. The accessories are pretty simple and involve faster swing speed, higher damage, more defense, pretty basic. This class may seem all about close combat, but by the time you enter hard mode, you have a lot of weapons that shoot projectiles that have a longer range. This class consists of a lot of similar weapons, but also a bit unique.

Armor

Armor in this class is what you would expect, it's all warrior-themed, with helmets, leggings, chest plates, and all that. certain armors have an ability, like being able to dash, or summon something to help you, or something else like that. here are some examples.

This is Solar Flare armor, the final melee armor, which has a lot of defense and gives a dash ability that can damage enemies. It's very powerful and it is only available post-moon-lord. This armor is mostly used for tanks, but it can be used for basic melee as well.

This is Beetle armor, it has two different chest plates, one that gives you more defense, and one that gives you more damage. This armor also spawns beetles around you that can reduce the amount of damage taken up to 45%. It's very powerful and good for melee and true melee players.

Weapons

The weapons are pretty basic, you have swords, spears, flails, and even yoyos. It is mainly about close combat in this class, although some weapons shoot projectiles, it's still a close combat type of class due to the high defense you get. Some weapons are strange but are still melee, and are obtained in strange ways. Once you get to hard mode, it's mainly swords and weapons that shoot projectiles, in pre-hard mode it's mainly close combat, and most weapons don't shoot projectiles. Here are some examples of each type of weapon.

Swords

This is the Terra blade, It's easily the best sword in the game other than the zenith. It used to be decent, but then it got a major change that completely reworked it. It used to fire out swords, but now it shoots out slashes that can damage more enemies. This sword can be obtained post-planter and carry you up to the moon lord. It's that good.

YoYos

This is the Terrarian, The best YoYo in the game. Yoyos are pretty simple, You throw the yoyo and it follows your cursor, and can only damage one enemy. YoYos haven't been a thing since the 1.4.4 update, but they are still good against bosses, but not events. This yoyo is also the only yoyo that fires any projectile from the yoyos.

Spears

This is the North Pole, pretty much the only good spear in Terraria. Spears aren't a thing for this class, so nobody uses them. Most spears just attack in front of you, and are considered for events.
This is the only spear that shoots any projectiles and is any good.

Boomerangs

This is the Paladin's Hammer, a boomerang even though it's a hammer. Boomerangs are useful in pre-hard hard mode, but in hard mode, they aren't a thing. you simply throw it and it comes back to you. Boomerangs are useful for keeping a distance between enemies.
It's still a good weapon choice, but it's not something anybody uses that much.

Flails

This is the flairon, a flail. Flails are boulders on a chain that you throw and then come back to you. The flatiron may not be a boulder, but flails in this game are boulders on chains. Flails aren't a thing unless you want to be able to pierce through multiple enemies, like in events.
Flails can be used against certain bosses that can be "Cheesed" by piercing a lot.

Conclusion

That's what you need to know about the melee class, There are some other things like accessories, but this covers up most of the important stuff. People have been playing the melee class a lot more even since the 1.4.4 update, you should check out this class. If you are someone who enjoys close combat, can handle being hit multiple times, and dodge well, then this class is for you. You probably won't be using most of these weapons aside from the swords and maybe yoyos, but still, these other weapons are "interesting" and different in a way, but can still be used to help with some bosses. Most melee players use swords nowadays, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try to use flails, boomerangs, or yoyos.
